Eleousa 1
Eleousa (ελεουσα) means: Mother of Tenderness.
This is the first icon I painted and I gave it to my sister.
My icon painting teacher is a fourth generation icon-writer from Bulgaria. In the Holy Saint Antonius Abt church in my town the priest is also an icon painter and they do a Byzantinian service around Orthodox Eastern every year.
In that service all the icons are blessed. So I went there a few times with the people who were getting my icons, like my mother and a friend or a buyer.
This icon was blessed at Orthodox Eastern.
I've seen quite a lot of icons, but I've never seen any other icon with such beautiful, almost heavenly bright colours with the purest gold. Those wings of the archangels! The spiritual seagreen of the robes of both the archangels is reinforced by the orange-red robe of Mary Magdalene. Everyone who visits my home for the first time, walks straight to this icon. Genuine respect, respect, respect.
